BBC Bircher Smart Access is due to release their first self-assembly safety edge system soon, called ExpertLine, as final field trials are underway. Shropshire-based company IN2 Access & Control Ltd., the exclusive distributor of BBC Bircher products in the UK, shares new information.
With ExpertLine, BBC Bircher introduces a new generation of safety edge technology for door and gate applications on the market. Engineers found a way to incorporate all the essential requirements for a safety edge inside the profile itself. With fast-switching behaviour and long over-travel distance, ExpertLine operates according to DIN EN 12453 safety standards. In addition, ExpertLine will offer considerable time savings due to its simple assembly along with an appealing, durable design. BBC Bircher says ExpertLine is a safety edge “from experts for experts.”
Upon release, ExpertLine will include three switching profiles of different heights (49 mm, 74 mm and 99 mm) with matching end caps. A unique contact end piece, an improved aluminium rail, end resistance plug, connection and extension cables complete the line. The 49 mm high rubber profile will be available late summer 2019. All other components are expected to be available by early June from IN2 Access in the UK and Ireland. The ExpertLine will be part of the upcoming "Expert System” – a wireless and maintenance-free protection solution for horizontal and vertical gates with integrated cat. 3 radio transmission. The Expert System was previewed in Munich at the BAU 2019 tradeshow this past January and expected to launch in autumn 2019.
Door/Gate manufacturers and fitters often face the challenge of faster door/gate speeds, while striving to meet ever stricter safety regulations. ExpertLine manages this balancing act. Due to the small switching distance of 3 mm and a sophisticated cross-section, ExpertLine profiles are switched by a force of only 35N. The switching profiles maintains reliable switching even with lateral actuation, because of its large effective actuation surfaces and angles within the switching chamber design. This makes ExpertLine an appropriate choice on rotating door leaves and folding or bi folding gates.
BBC Bircher will offer ExpertLine as pre-assembled safety edges, self-assembly kits in 2 m standard lengths, or as a modular system for self-assembly. On request, kits can also be supplied in other lengths. The Safety edge kit, with its sophisticated switching chamber, are assembled in a few simple steps. Customers benefit from shorter delivery and assembly times. The new contact end piece establishes a secure contact in the switching chamber of the profile. With the pluggable screw connectors, the wiring is simplified. Thanks to the coated profile foot, clipping into the aluminium mounting profile is quick and effortless.
Due to the high sensitivity and the long, unobstructed deformation path, ExpertLine allows the choice of a comparatively lower profile height. The profiles cover the aluminium rail, while the end cap closes the switching profile on the both ends. This makes ExpertLine a good choice when looking for a discreet safety edge solution. The EPDM material retains its technical properties and lightfast colouring over many years. With its new IP67 rating, ExpertLine has a lot to offer against mechanical stress, moisture and changing weather conditions in the temperature range between -20 and 60 ° C.
